This view was formed after carrying out empirical research with key industry
experts (Scottish Tourist Board, National Trust for Scotland, Scottish
Enterprise and Historic Scotland) who promote and manage visitor attractions
in Scotland. Many of these experts noted that the impact of key environmental
factors, related to legislative changes (requirements on health, safety
and employment issues), developments in technology and rapidly evolving
socio-economic trends, would have a major impact on how visitor attractions
manage their staff. The industry experts also underlined that increasing globalization,
greater competition and demographic changes would raise the
need for visitor attractions to be more creative. In essence the impact of such
environmental factors further emphasizes the need to attract, retain, develop
and effectively manage staff so that they can effectively offer a valued product
and experience to visitors
