Chance 當名詞用時可跟介系詞 at, for, of 和 on 連用：Mary has a chance at winning. (瑪麗有獲勝的機會)；The meetings are very short, so there is little chance for real discussion. 翻譯上都是"機會"對不對? 所以會混淆. 那如果我說:重樂透的"機會". 跟如果我說:得到工作的"機會". 英文就差很多了. The "chance" to win lottery. The "oppitunity" to get the job. 差別在:運氣在裡面的"機會" 跟大部分不是運氣的"機會" 因為你永遠不會有"oppitunity" 去贏樂透. 但你會有"chance"! 所以他們有時可代替, 但句意理佔運氣較大的用chance. 但大部分不是運氣使然就必須用oppitunity( 有耕耘過呦)

chance 是隨機發生的"事件"沒有被預期的情況 事件結果可好可壞
比較意外的
opportunity 是 事件已經發生, 等看結果..好或者沒有 (沒有壞)
比較有打算做某件事的
以下是例句:
出去玩撿到錢...<-- chance (意外)
出去抓魚, 抓到很多魚<-- opportunity 有或沒有
出去抓魚, 今天沒魚 <-- opportunity 有或沒有
出去抓蝦, 卻意外抓到魚 <-- chance 好
出去玩被老闆抓到 <-- chance 壞
出去玩 沒被老闆抓到 <-- chance 好
努力讀書, 有考到好學校的機會<-- opporutnity 有好學校
記得, 以上是"通用" 該用opportunity 硬是換成 chance 也不能算錯.. 語言是沒有對錯的..大家常說的就是對的.. 就像 "某人機車".. 機車在這邊也從名詞變成形容詞了..可是國語字典上不會說機車是形容詞的.
那如果我說:重樂透的"機會".
跟如果我說:得到工作的"機會".
英文就差很多了.
